“Editing” the Commercial

Today was the day that we were supposed to finish our filming and to start editing. Last class my group and I did finish filming, so we didn’t have to do anymore filming. Last class we got to dump all our footage on the computer before everybody else, but when we got to class this morning this other group came up to us saying they have their footage on the same computer. Then they went on and on about how they either want us to get up or they want to move their footage over to another computer. They kept saying their footage was on the computer but my group and I did not see it on the desktop with ours. So they finally decided since they had a flash drive they would do their work on another computer. After they left us alone we finally got log into the computer where we dumped all our footage and we pulled up pinnacle studios so that we can import all our footage over. Then pinnacle studios asked for our log in. And I just thought it was asking for our 06# and password. But we tried it and it was wrong.
Then my group member said I don’t think it’s our log in I think it’s the teacher’s. So we called the teacher over to help us and to get the log in. She put the log in in the computer and it just blanked out and she told us if it doesn’t come up call me back. So we waited and waited and waited for it to come up and it didn’t so we called the teacher again and we clicked it again and it just popped up with it logged in and everything. So I kind of felt back that we called them over there just for it to work but at least we got in. Now we’re in the pinnacle about to start filming but we forgot how to import the footage. My group member is trying to figure it out before we call them over again but then we see her passing us we were like we might as well ask the question. We asked her how to import the footage and she was explaining to us how the computer isn’t working, and how she wanted us to still blog, and how they weren’t going to fail us, and I was like say less. I really didn’t even feel like editing today because I was so tired so I was really happy when she said that.
Then everybody else in the class was asking the same thing about how and why the computers aren’t working. The teachers kept explaining how they still wanted us to blog and that they won’t fail us. Now that everybody was aware of the “difficulties”, we are all just blogging about literally the same thing. To be honest I really rather blog than edit because I just really not that creative but I guess that’s why I got the class to explore my creativeness. But I know we are eventually going to have to edit the commercial, but when that time comes I guess I’ll be a little bit more excited than I am now. It’s not even that I’m just don’t want to do it, it’s that I’m so tired. But next class I’m going to try to come with a little more energy for this class. The editing would probably not be my strongest suit so I’ll just try to learn with my group on how to be creative. I won’t say that I’m not creative because sometimes I do get a spark or something just comes to me once in a while. But I'm really not that in touch with brain for me to be as creative as everybody else. So this time I’m going to see what their inspiration comes from for me to get better.

Filming Blog

Today we did the filming segment of this project. Last class we prepared by doing our storyboard. Before we started filming we collected the equipment need to do the commercial. We got the camera, tripod, and also a pass. They did also gave us an sd card but we gave it back because I bought an sd card already. I bought one because I knew it would be easier to keep all the films together and not have to worry about the shots being deleted. After we got all of our equipment we went to outside to start filming. We started filming at the senior patio to get our first shot. I was the first actor we filmed. Then I realized I couldn’t be the only actor so I suggested that my teammate be the other actor for it to make more sense.
I had to act like I was tired while doing my homework so that the other actor can act like they were giving me an energy drink. After the other actor gave me the energy drink I had to have more energy and my work faster. While we were filming I actually was really doing my homework. After we did one of the long shots I explained to them how we should have an over the shoulder view so when we edit we can go from shot to shot. I was also showing them where to go so they can get the most efficient angles in the shot. After we left that location we went to building 21 to film the next scene. That scene requires my other group member and me. The scene shows her coming in to school tired and me giving her the coffee. We did that shot a lot of times. But I do think we actually got a lot of good footage. I also came up with the idea where she turns around to show the drink. I also showed them the way to hold the camera for the scene for the right angles.
Then our teacher text us to let us know what time we should come back to the classroom. After we got that text we checked the time and we were 15 minutes ahead of schedule. So we decided to go back to the class room before everybody else so we won’t have a problem with the amount of computers or with the amount of sd card readers. If my group and I would have got there later we would’ve have to wait for computers and also sd card readers. With us going back to the class on time we got to sit at the computer without everybody everywhere in the class and watch all of our takes. When we watched all of our footage we realized we might have to redo the second scene over with a new angle or shot so you can see a closer view. Next class we probably won’t have much to do because we got so much done today and because we also managed our time very well and went with what we did on the storyboard.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today we started class by going over the process to check out a camera and how to use the camera. The cameras were way smaller than I thought they would be. After they went over the camera functions they also showed how to use the tripod so that we won’t break it. The tripod is really nice and it stands really tall. I did think about using my phone instead of the camera but then I realized my phone camera isn’t that good and it probably won’t get the footage I need for the project. I’m actually really excited for filming day because my group and I have a really good plan and I also think our commercial is going to be really fun. We have two more days until we start filming because the week is so short. In today’s lesson our teacher went over the editing process.
Our teacher went step by step to explain how each of the systems work. I don’t know if the editing process will be my favorite because I’ve never been that strong with editing with pictures or videos of my own. Even though I probably won’t be that good at it, I'm really excited to learn all about it and get better at it. Since the class is based on sharing most of the items used in the class, I think I’m going to try to purchase some of the items by myself so I won’t have to share with anyone. I already have the SD card so I won’t have the stress of thinking of someone deleting or even touching my footage.
I’m really happy that I chose to do this first project in a group so that we can learn from each other and they can help me with things I’m not as strong in like editing and I can help them with things there not as strong in. For further projects I may not work with other people only because I know we have to do it off campus and I don’t want it to be too stressful with location or meet up times. The editing process might be the hardest part for me so I’m happy that I have a group to help me out with skills I’m not as comfortable in as they are.

Planning Blog for Dunkin’ Donuts Commercial

Today we are working in our planning phase due at the end of today. We have to plan how our entire commercial is going to be set up. we have to plan the props, costumes, schedule, location and the back up plan. Our vision for the Dunkin’ Donuts commercial is to show the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee as an energizer for students at Fort Lauderdale High School. For example having the coffee will make the students feel more energized and more ready to do homework and get to class and be ready for their sports. We will be sure to get the coffee the day filming starts from the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shop and also get a cold brew Dunkin’ Donuts from our school vending machines. This will Make it easier to market this product because it will show many forms of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee make it easier to market this product because it will show many forms of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

  • Props
For the commercial we will use two dunkin’ donuts coffees, one from the store and one that is prepackaged. We will also use a water bottle for the first few scenes. We will also have notebooks textbooks and backpacks to imply the students are studying or working on schoolwork.
  • Costumes
We will be wearing school spirit clothes to show that we go to the school.
  • Schedule
Planning - 10/10
Storyboard - 10/14
Filming - 10/21

If it rains, we will have to change the senior patio to the Media Classroom to show someone studying.

If someone is absent, we will use an understudy.

Research blog: Commercial Conventions

Today we started the commercial process and my group, and I decided we wanted to do the commercial on Fort Lauderdale High School (our school). We decided we wanted to do it on a club or sport here at the school, but we can’t decide which sport or club. One of my group members wanted to do it on the poetry club, and I was asking her what we do the commercial on and she gave me great ideas she had. But I was thinking we can do it on our school's cheer team because we can talk about our upcoming games and activities coming up and we can also talk about what they do at practice and see how they come up with performance ideas.
My group and I still haven’t decided on what we want to do for our commercial because one of the girls wants to do the poetry club and I want to the cheer leading team, but the other girl likes my idea with the cheer leading team. So, we may or may not do that idea, but I don’t want her to be uncomfortable or to not feel heard. Today we were supposed to finish this blog in class but since my last week blog had some technical difficulties, I had to put a little more attention on that than I wanted to.
Before I fixed the technical issues with my other blog, I did already start this blog, so I was kind of happy that I realized I had a jump start on it. I wish there was more space in the classroom though. Because it would be a lot easier for groups to work on their work together. Even though this is only my second blog I think I'm going to really enjoy blogging this year.

Introduction

My name is Kyndell Baskin, I attend Fort Lauderdale High School and I am in the tenth grade. I am also on my school's cheer team as a co-captain. To attend this school I had to either join the Pre-Law program or the Cambridge program and since i didn't want to become a lawyer or police officer, I chose the Cambridge program. Usually students start their Cambridge journey in 9th grade but for me, I started in my 10th grade year. Now I take 3 Aice classes in one year.
I do think I can handle the load of 3 Aice classes but its going to take me a little minute to get used to how fast the curriculum moves. When this class started we started off with taking notes and getting used to the curriculum. After getting used to the vocabulary we took a quiz to test how well we know the vocabulary. The test was kind of easy but I did get at least four wrong. This past week we did extracts to practice for the Cambridge test for the end of the year. The extracts were kind of hard only because every time the video started my mind would go blank.
To make sure that doesn't happen again I'm going to study a lot more. Even though it might be weird to study by watching tv I do think its going to be very effective. Since this is my first year taking Cambridge I'm going to have to really focus on my work and do all my homework so I won't fail the end of year test.
