Title Research: Split


  1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequence to the film? There were at least 16 titles in the opening sequence. I counted all the actors they listed in the opening sequence as one title.
  2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? The images that were prioritized in the opening sequence was a ceiling of a yellow painted hallway and also someone getting pushed on a gurney.
  3. What connotation does the images carry? The images carry a spooky connotation because the lights continue to flick on and off and you don't know what is going to happen.
  4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? The genre of this film is reinforced because of the way it goes from a shot to a title scene adds a sense of thriller to the opening sequence.
  5. How does the film establish an enigma to the outset? This film establishing an enigma by shooting a part of the title scene in different location. Doing things like that makes the audience wonder whats going on which makes the audience want  to continue watching. 
  6. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? As was stated in the previous questions, they use questionable shots to create a sense of suspense which makes the want to continue watching. All these things add to the genre of thriller.
  7. How was technology used effectively?  They their editing platform to give the outset a confusing touch,  which was a great touch to the outset. They also used their camera to create a tracking with the person on the gurney to show that it was an emergency.
